We will be flying into Salt Lake City and driving to big sky. Are there any attractions along the way? Also do they have a large grocery store in any of the towns we will pass through ?

The quickest way from SLC to Big Sky is up I15 to Idaho Falls. From there take US20 to West Yellowstone and then follow US191 up to Big Sky.

Here is a recent thread from the Idaho forum with lists of stores in Idaho Falls and I think there may be a mention of the WalMart in Rexburg. There are not any big stores past Rexburg but there are 2 smaller grocery stores in West Yellowstone.

To me the biggest *attraction* in the area is Yellowstone.

What were you looking for? If you stop on I15 at the rest area near Blackfoot ID you can have a short walk out thru the lava fields which is pretty neat.

The Mesa Falls Scenic Byway is a pretty drive and takes you to two waterfalls. You turn off Hwy 20 onto Hwy 47 at Ashton, ID and the drive takes you first through farm country and then you drop into a wooded area with views of the river and Teton Mountains. There are walkways that get you really close to the falls. Then the road takes you back to Hwy 20. It's definitely worth the drive and only adds maybe an hour to your trip depending on how much time you spend viewing the falls.
